"Burnout is what happens when you try to avoid being human for too long."
---American musician Michael Gungor
We've spoken with a lot of local expats this year and we know that the stress people in general are feeling is unprecedented. In the best of times, life can be stressful: Some juggle family responsibilities; some are overworked; still others are stressed because they can't find work - something that can cause just as much stress and exhaustion as someone working too much. Add to this all of the problems 2020 has brought to our entire society and it's understandable why so many of us are feeling burnout - a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress.
All of us likely know what it feels like to be burned out, but how can we recognise the early signs of a burnout? Why do we stagnate for long periods, even though we are hard-workers and individuals with high potential? What are the factors that make us more vulnerable and susceptible to an anxiety disorder or a burnout? And what can we do when we are in the midst of a burnout to get on the road to recovery?
During our October webinar, we looked at the idea of resilience - how to keep yourself mentally shored up in such difficult times. In this spirit, for our next webinar we want to talk about what happens when your resilience has been eroded, and how to get back on track - as well as how to be better prepared for future burnouts. Join us on Tuesday, 24 November for a discussion and mental fitness workshop titled, "How to Avoid (Another) Burnout," with speaker Vassia Sarantopoulou of AntiLoneliness.
By participating in this webinar you will:
- How to recognize the signs of burnout and prevent it as soon as possible
- How volunteering can help you build healthy habits in order to protect your mental health
- Ways to understand your negative thinking and how to reverse it
- How to examine your existing coping mechanisms and turn them from self-sabotaging to self-boosting
- Methods to cultivate healthy mindset and better your work-life balance
Following Vassia's presentation, there will be time for Q&A.
